Black-backed Jackal

Medium-sized, dog-like carnivore with characteristic black ”saddle” which is broad at the neck and shoulders narrowing to the base of the tail. The saddle is literally sprinkled with white hair. The face, flanks and legs are reddish-brown with the under parts usually paler. The lips, throat and chest are white. Fairly large pointed ears are reddish on the back surface and lined with white hair on the inside. The tail is black and bushy.
